Internexus's business broadband services deliver high quality, affordable broadband for small business.
The service is delivered down a normal BT landline which can also be used as a phone line.
The technology used is ADSL, and offers download speeds up to 24Mbps but upload speeds are only about 6% of download speeds. This makes it perfect for businesses that need the internet for browsing the web, email and downloading large amounts of information, but do not need to upload vast amounts of information such as when running a server.
Selecting the right product
Internexus will help you select a product suited to your business needs. A wide range of ADSL and ADSL2+ Broadband configurations are possible with different speeds, monthly usage and contention ratios.
Download Speed
Download speeds of "Up to 8Mbps" (ADSL) or "Up to 24Mbps" (ADSL2+) depending on your telephone line and location. "Up to 8Mb" is available throughout the UK. "Up to 24Mb" is available in up to 65% of BT exchanges and will be extended to 75% by next year. Download speeds are important for web browsing and downloading software or content from the web.
Upload Speed
Upload speed of "Up to 448kbps" (ADSL) or "Up to 1Mbps" (ADSL2+). High upload speeds are important when sending information from your computer to the Internet and for voice traffic. With ADSL upload speeds are only about 6% of download speeds, and other forms of broadband (e.g. SDSL, Fibre Broadband or Dedicated Internet Access using Leased Lines) may be necessary where higher and consistent upload speeds are required.
Monthly Usage
This is the total amount of data downloaded per month. Heavy users of the internet will need to go for a package that includes a large amount as standard. Options are available with 10GB , 50GB, 100GB, or Unlimited.
Traffic Prioritisation with Reduced Contention
This option gives priority to business users during peak periods so that upload and download speeds do not fall below certain minimum limits. Such a service would be important to avoid your business being slowed down greatly during peak hours of around 5pm to 9pm.

Business Broadband Questions and Answers
What is BT 21CN and ADSL2+?
21CN (21st Century Network) is a UK wide communication network upgrade project currently being rolled out by BT Wholesale. The broadband element of the project delivers ADSL2+ to customers. The ADSL2+ part of 21CN offers faster broadband speeds compared to the standard ADSL broadband service with download speed of "Up to 24Mb" and upload "Up to 1Mb". Increased broadband speeds as a result of ADSL2+ technology will facilitate faster data, Internet and video services.
Can I get "Up to 24Mb" broadband in my area?
New customers that are connected to a BT 21st Century Network (21CN) enabled exchange will be on the "up to 24Mbps" broadband service straightaway. Today over 65% of UK homes and businesses are connected to 21CN enabled BT exchanges. BT aim to extend this to 75% by Spring 2011. If you are not on a 21CN enabled exchange then your broadband speed will be "up to 8Mbps".
Do I need to change my existing router?
Most existing routers that are ADSL2+ compatible will work. We recommend that customers upgrade to a new router. The performance of your router on an ADSL2+ service will depend on the age of the device and the firmware installed.
What is Bonded Broadband?
Bonded broadband works by physically 'bonding' several DSL connections together either ADSL or SDSL in order to create a faster single connection to the internet. With the national rollout out of Fibre Broadband with download speed of "Up to 40Mb" and upload speed of "Up to 10Mb", the need for bonded broadband is falling.
What determines my broadband speeds?
Internexus will provide you with the fastest connection speed that your phone line will reliably support. The actual speed that you get will depend on a number of factors including:-
- The distance you are from the local BT exchange - biggest factor.
- The quality of wiring from the BT exchange to your premises
- The internal wiring within your premises and interference with any other electrical equipment within your premises
- The age of your computer or broadband router
- If you're connected to the broadband router directly or via wireless
- Number of applications or programmes you are running on your computer
- The speed of the Web site you're downloading information from
- The number of people trying to download the same information as you from the same Web site
- Weather conditions
The connection speed will be set during the first ten day testing period. Speed may then be limited by, for example, general congestion on the Internet or a number of heavy broadband users connecting to the same telephone exchange as you. We advise that during peak usage times it is likely that download speeds no greater than 3.5Mbps will be achieved.
How can you improve your broadband speeds?
Making small changes can make a significant improvement on your broadband speeds. If you would like to increase your broadband speed you could try the following:
- If your computer or broadband router is old then upgrading them may improve your speed.
- If connecting wirelessly to your broadband router try plugging directly into your broadband router to see if there's any improvement, if there is then you could try moving the location of your router
make sure that your wireless connection is secure. If other people are using your connection then it will definitely slow your own broadband speed down.
What are my Upload speeds with ADSL
Upload speeds with ADSL are about 6% of download speeds. Thus if you are getting 10MB download speed, you will get an approximate upload speed of 600Kb. If you need much higher upload speeds, then ADSL may not be the right product for you.
How can I move to Internexus from another Internet Service?
You can move to Internexus for free. To allow us to initiate a free migration, you should contact your existing Internet Service Provider (ISP) and ask them to provide you with a Migrations Authority Code (MAC). A MAC code is used to authenticate the migration request from your current ISP to Internexus. The use of a MAC makes migrations between ISPs simpler and quicker to validate enabling the migration to be completed in a much shorter timescale than previously possible. Please make the ISP aware that you are migrating to Internexus Internet and do not want your ADSL service ceased (cancelled) until the migration has been completed.
How long does it take for a new broadband order to be completed and service available?
