Medium Business Broadband, Voice and Data Connectivity

Introduction

Internexus Broadband and Connectivity products can be tailored for the needs of any size or type of business. Here we look at how Internexus can assess the requirements of a medium sized business and provide suitable products to improve performance, increase resilience, and reduce costs.

Mid-sized Business Set up

Mid-sized businesses up to 100 staff can be found in many different industries and are set-up in a wide variety of ways. Almost all will have offices and many will have dedicated IT or data management departments. Some such businesses will have multiple offices which may be in different locations throughout the UK.

Common Business Needs

Connectivity is essential for any business. Here are some of the common needs of most mid-sized businesses.

  • Email communications - an essential need for every business
  • General Access to the Internet for a wide range of purposes
  • IP Telephony (VoIP), either because the business has a full IP telephone system or is simply has a requirement for a SIP Trunk
  • Own Server, Hosting and Websites
  • Access to hosted application
  • Data communication between offices
  • Access to company applications by Remote Staff
  • Provide a common security for staff at multiple sites or offices e.g. using IP VPN
  • Data backup to remote sites/co-location

3 Step Process

  • Assessment

Internexus consultants will do an assessment by looking at the existing business set-up, current needs, future plans, and business priorities. This will help determine the best product or combination of products for the business. With a mid-sized business, this will almost always involve a site visit and face to face discussions after an initial telephone assessment. A comprehensive site survey may also be necessary in some case.

  • Recommendations

After the assessment, we will provide a written recommendation with a quotation. Our aims would be to delivers better performance and more resilience whilst fulfilling other identified needs. The options and recommendations will be discussed with the business usually at a face to face meeting before agreement is reached on the best way forward.

  • Installation & Provisioning

Once the necessary elements of the network have been planned, designed and procured, Internexus can undertake the installation and commissioning to ensure that the network is configured and operating effectively. The agreed products will be installed and services provisioned in a seamless manner with minimal or no disruption to the business; and Internexus can provide training, and will provide ongoing support and advice.

Products to Meet Needs

Even though email and standard Internet Access are not usually bandwidth intensive, a company with up to 100 users would want to have high bandwidth Dedicated Internet Access, as ADSL broadband would not be adequate, especially at peak times. Even with the best standard ADSL there could be up to 20 users sharing the same bandwidth at peak times, as it is a contended service.

It is also likely that there will be a requirement for high upstream bandwidth especially if the company has IP Telephony or runs its own server based applications. In such a case having ADSL would be totally inadequate due to the low upload speeds.

Inter Office Connectivity if needed would also require good bandwidth in both directions and the business may have a requirement for an IP VPN covering all of their sites.

Overall Connection Bandwidth will be determined by the needs of the business (and would typically vary between 10Mbps to 100Mbps, normally in both directions) and a Dedicated Connection such as a Leased Line or Wireless Microwave Link to a Internexus POP would normally be required for such a business. In a few cases, where requirements are lower than average, it may be possible to manage with Fibre Broadband or EFM providing these products are available at the local exchange serving the business.

A business may also consider utilizing Internexus SIP Trunking services, especially if the new bandwidth is ample as this will enable the business to reduce line rental costs and also make savings on telephone calls. Internexus SIP Trunking is usually possible without replacing the current Telephone System. Alternatively a new IP Telephone System (in conjunction with our partner Tpad) may be worth considering at the same time particularly if your current system is outdated or limiting your productivity. A Tpad system will provide the latest advanced features such as Call Recording, Fax to Email and Remote Working.

Business Quotes

"We are a Marketing Agency and a lot of our work depends on having reliable and fast Internet access. We wanted to review our Internet needs and asked Internexus to provide us with options. They considered various options including EFM, Leased Lines, and even a Microwave Link. The Microwave link would have been the best but there was no clear line of site from our office to any of the 3 Internexus linked sites in our town. In the end we went for Leased Line with 10Mbps capacity and this has proved to be excellent compared with our old set-up"
Barry Soopen - Director - Marketing Pot

"Internexus has provided our company with good advice, support and after sales service. We have 2 regional offices and these are connected via Leased Lines. Our Head Office is connected to a Internexus site via a Microwave Link and all sites are serviced by an IP VPN managed by Internexus."
Des Thompson - IT Manger

"We moved offices last year and at the same time upgraded our Internet Services and IP telephone system. Internexus did a full assessment of our needs and then recommended a Wireless Microwave link to connect our building to one of their linked sites which was about half a mile away, but visible from the top of our building. This was installed within 2 weeks prior to our move and gives us enormous bandwidth for Dedicated Internet Access and for our IP VPN Network"
Kevin Ridyard - IT Manager - Granville Construction

"Most of our IT data traffic goes through our head office. Previously we managed using IP VPN over ADSL broadband but as our business grew this become a bottleneck. We were recommended to speak to Internexus Business and we sought their advice. They recommended a Leased Line solution and now we have 10Mbps link to the Internet and this is fully managed by them. We are very satisfied with the help and support we have received from Internexus."
Richard Hobbs - Director - Health Promotions

"We installed a powerful NEC telephone system 3 years ago. We were advised by another supplier to scrap our Telephone systems in order to take advantage of lower cost Voip calls. Internexus told us about their SIP Trunking service that would allow us to keep our existing telephone system, with which we are happy, but still take advantage of the latest technology to reduce our phone costs. When we switched our broadband services to Internexus, the SIP Trunking was supplied free and has allowed us to reduce our line costs, and at the same time we improved our Internet Bandwidth."
Colin Holden - Director

"We were moving premises and needed to upgrade our IT, Broadband and Telecommunications. We were glad that we discussed our needs with Internexus and their partner company Tpad. The whole process was handled by them including assessment, consultancy, quotations, planning and full implementation. They were price competitive and although there have been issues, they have dealt with these quickly and professionally. We are extremely satisfied with our new telephone system and high speed Dedicated Internet Access via a 10Mb Microwave Link."
Paul Heaton - IT Director

"We switched our lines and broadband to Internexus when we upgraded our new phone system & IT set-up. Internexus took their time to assess our old set-up and discuss our requirements before making any recommendations. The switch was managed very well and we have far more bandwidth for the same price"
D. Heath - IT Director

"I was not aware of the Internexus business services until it was recommended by a friend. Our business was being affected by slow and unreliable Internet. We had approached other companies but were still nervous about selecting the wrong products. Internexus staff took time to learn about our business before giving advice and were price competitive. They gave us confidence to make the upgrade decision, which was long overdue; and for this I am grateful"
John Hough - Managing Director

"We already had Business Broadband from Internexus for several years. When we wanted to add an ISDN 30 link, we contacted Internexus and they gave us a competitive quote. The staff were very professional and we have had good after sales support. I can recommend Internexus business to other customers without hesitation"
